The history of breeding Budyonnovtsy began in the twenties of the last century. The founder of the breed is considered to be Marshal Budenny, who sought to create a universal horse for cavalry. To this end, he placed at the head of the horse farms the generals and commanders of the First Horse Army. It was decided that a new breed will be created by crossing stallions of the "British" pure blood and mares of the Don breed - both of them are characterized by excellent race qualities, proper physique.

During World War II, the Budennovites brought invaluable assistance in transporting heavy weapons and provisions on impassable roads. After the war, this breed received official status. It was recognized by the Council of Ministers of the USSR by its resolution under number 4210.

In the first decade after the war, thanks to only one stallion with the name Rubilnik, it was possible to form the ideal appearance of a horse of the Budyonnovsky breed, which is the standard to this day.

During the twenty post-war years, the need for an equestrian army and the massive use of horses in agriculture disappear. The Budennovskaya breed changes its purpose and becomes sports-oriented.
