The Wales government has unveiled an agricultural subsidy plan after Brexit.
Farmers will be encouraged to improve and protect the environment. They will be rewarded for improving air quality, reducing carbon emissions and improving soil quality.
Wales' Minister of the Environment, Energy, and Agriculture Leslie Griffiths A.M. stated: “The way we support farmers after Brexit is changing, and Brexit gives us the opportunity to develop a Made in Wales scheme.”
According to the Minister, future support for farmers should reflect sustainable food production, response to extreme climate conditions and prevention of biodiversity decline. Farmers who take action to address these issues should be encouraged.
“We want sustainable farms that produce both food and wider benefits to improve the welfare of farmers, rural communities and the entire population of Wales today and in the future.
However, we cannot do this alone and must work directly with farmers so that our proposals work locally, ”said Wales' Minister for the Environment, Energy and Agriculture.
