The first city apiary will be built in the city of Autumn. 5 hives, including 4 historical ones, will be installed on the square next to one of the shopping centers. The honey collected from them will be used by the city for advertising purposes.
On Friday, the city signed a contract with an experienced beekeeper, whose task will be to create such an apiary. He also needs to repair the four historic hives characteristic of the region.
The oldest of them is about 100 years old. Next to the historic hives will be built 1 modern. All will be organized in such a way that, for security reasons, there is no direct access to people and animals.
Around the hives are flower meadows and sunflower fields laid this year. In addition, fruit trees and shrubs, as well as melliferous plants, will be planted on the hive area.
“This is a good way to stimulate beekeeping and combat the danger of the mass extinction of these beneficial insects,” said Bialystok President Tadeusz Truskolaski.
He expressed the hope that bees settle in the Bialystok apiary on an ongoing basis, and similar places will be created in other cities of the region.
If the bees populate the hives, the city expects to receive 10-15 kg. honey from every hive next year. According to the assumptions, after preparation and packaging in small containers, honey collected in this way should be used to promote the city.
