The Food Corporation of India, the central agency that buys food grain for the government and transports it to the states, has set a new record in one-day traffic, transporting 193 thousand tons continuously for two days.
Punjab takes first place in terms of transportation of the maximum amount of food grain, which is 46% of the total amount of food grain displaced throughout the country to feed the poor during quarantine measures. Haryana (18%), Telangana (12%) and Chhattisgarh (7%) are other large states, of which food grain was moved to different parts of the country.
On average, in Asia, rice consumption per person is about 150 kg per year, in European countries this figure is about 2 kg.

Among consumer states, the maximum amount of food grain was transported to Uttar Pradesh (207 thousand tons), followed by Bihar (196 thousand tons), West Bengal (165 thousand tons) and Karnataka (157 thousand tons).
As of April 4, 2020, FCI has 55.47 million tons of food grain in the central granary (31.23 million tons of rice and 24.24 million tons of wheat).
The government provides 5 kg of rice or wheat for free over the next three months of 810 million poor people under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
