The goal should be achieved by the end of 2022, in the same year Denmark intends to eradicate the use of medical zinc in pig pens.
Over the next four years, Danish pig producers must cut antibiotic consumption by two percent each year and completely eliminate the use of medical zinc in pens.
The measure was supported by most legislators and established after the recommendation of the Veterinary Medical Council.
It is planned that by the end of 2022, the consumption of antibiotics in Denmark's pig breeding should be eight percent lower than at the beginning of 2019. At the same time, by 2022, medical zinc should be completely removed from pig pens.
Year after year, Danish pig farmers managed to significantly reduce the consumption of antibiotics, so today it is as much as 28% lower than in 2009. This was done thanks to conscious farming and the Food Agency.
The yellow card scheme gives the farmer an incentive to reduce drug use, said Food Minister Mogens Jensen.
At the same time, it was decided that the reduction target would still be calculated in kilograms of active substance, as before, but at the same time the dose would be calculated.
