The Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture is introducing measures to minimize the possible economic and financial consequences that may arise as a result of the epidemiological situation with the new coronavirus COVID-19.
In the context of the measures of the Rural Development Program for 2014-2020, efforts are being made to accelerate the settlement of payments for goods, by stimulating in the form of advance payments, with deferred payment.
Portugal holds a leading position in the production of wine corks. A lot of cork trees grows in the country, but the trees themselves do not destroy, but use only their bark.
Costs incurred by the beneficiaries due to canceled or deferred activities for reasons related to COVID-19 are eligible for reimbursement.
Agri-food companies have access to the Capitalizar 2018 COVID-19 line of credit to meet their working capital needs. Credit operations provided in this area are guaranteed by up to 80% of the outstanding capital, while the guarantee fee is fully subsidized.
The following measures have been announced as part of the Rural Development Program for 2014-2020:
- extension of the contractual deadlines for the completion of the physical and financial execution of projects;
- permission to submit a larger number of interim payments with a phased presentation of costs and appropriate compensation.
Such measures seek to immediately respond to already identified situations. However, other activities are under study and may be updated at any time.
