On April 25 of this year, about a hundred people came to a rally under the walls of the Kherson Regional State Administration and Regional Council.
All this is the staff of the water sector of the region. According to the initiator, management employees are demanding higher salaries (supposedly, if irrigation tariffs are not increased, they will work for a minimum wage).
Recall that farmers of the region already protested against raising tariffs for irrigation of fields to the basin management of water resources of the Lower Dnieper. Over the course of 5 years, prices have increased more than 4 times. Agricultural producers of the Kherson region consider the current price of water to be overestimated and economically unreasonable.Agrarians of the Kherson region complain that due to the increase in irrigation tariffs, many crops are simply unprofitable to grow. And in a hot, dry climate, especially given the recent climate changes in Ukraine and around the world, it is almost impossible to grow anything without watering.
Rice producers were particularly affected by high irrigation prices, because this crop requires a lot of water. Farmers are ready to completely abandon its cultivation, if the price of water remains the same. In this case, the Kherson rice will no longer be on the Ukrainian market and consumers will have to pay extra for imported rice.
