Pruning is one of the main and most important steps to achieve your dream garden. This is necessary for a good appearance and proper development of plants. That is why the choice of garden shears is a responsible and sometimes difficult task.
Which delimbers to choose from the proposed ones?
Before buying, think about why you will use them. The most suitable type of scissors will give an aesthetic and beautiful look to your garden.
The garden owner will need one type of scissors, another one for those who love ornamental shrubs and herbs. Choose all the tools so that the most frequent cutting diameter of the branches is half their maximum girth. Sometimes you can cut thicker branches, but if you cut them often, you will overload your hands and get tired quickly.
We will take convenient garden shears at least a hundred times a year.
What is the optimal size of the delimbers?
Standard scissors are designed to work with one hand and cut branches with a diameter of up to 25 mm. It is important to choose the right size that will fit your hand. If you put the open scissors on your palm, then with your fingertips and thumb you should conveniently touch two handles.
Incidentally, the delimbers were invented in France. The first instrument was made at the beginning of the 19th century. They cut the vine: the cut was smooth, thin, and quickly restored. The tool quickly gained popularity.
Garden scissors with one or two blades?
A single-blade delimber cuts dry branches well and can also prune roots, as it is less prone to damage by sand and is easier to sharpen.
Another option is scissors with two blades that diverge, and the lower blade has a hook shape. They are suitable for green branches that we want to cut near the stem.
Classic clippers or notched?
Scissors can be of a classic design or equipped with an amplifier. The first group includes, for example, scissors with finger protection, where, thanks to interesting designs, a stable grip is ensured, which does not slip out of the hand. The second group is represented by scissors with a rotating handle.
The ergonomic design of these garden shears ensures that the handle fits snugly against the palm when squeezed. This movement is transmitted through the gears of the upper blade. Both arms are parallel throughout the cutting and contraction. Unlike conventional scissors, this allows all fingers to be loaded simultaneously. The pressure is evenly distributed. This design has a big impact on reducing hand fatigue.
In 1923, W. Schroeder, Chief Executive Officer of the engineering plant P.Nicolaisen Jun. Maschinenfabrik ”in Germany, launched the world's first universal anvil shears and received a patent.
Electric delimbers
New model with battery powered power drive. Such a tool is very expensive, and when you purchase it, you need to decide what you will cut it and whether you really need it.
Maintenance of our clippers
Although many models are made of stainless steel, they should not be exposed to rain or moisture. After each use, clean and dry the scissors. Special leather covers are also available that prevent injury and can be worn on a belt. Remove rust from garden shears with chemical or sandpaper. Be sure to lubricate the scissors.
Trimming branches is already quite a difficult task, and when using an uncomfortable tool, this activity will generally become hard labor. Therefore, do not save on a good lopper - it will fully justify its price with the convenience of working with it.
