Between January and April 2019, Russian buyers purchased over one hundred thirty-three thousand tons of red meat on the foreign market. Such information was shared by representatives of the statistical department of the customs service of the Russian Federation.
It is noteworthy that over the year, the supply of beef, lamb and pork, produced by foreign meat processing enterprises, grew by almost six and a half percent (if we compare the period of the first four months of 2018).
It is noted that for the purchase of foreign meat Russian wholesalers had to pay more than four hundred forty-three million dollars, which is almost two percent lower than in the first four months of 2018.
Meanwhile, while import of red meat is growing on the Russian market, volumes of purchases of poultry meat of foreign production fell significantly over the past year.
It is known that from the first days of this year to the end of April, Russia acquired from foreign suppliers no more than sixty-eight thousand tons of chicken and other poultry meat, both frozen and fresh.
This indicator is one and a half percent lower than the volume of purchases of poultry meat, which was recorded in the same period in 2018. However, prices for this product increased by almost nine percent over the year.
