Specialists of the State Food and Beverage Service of Ukraine were not allowed to import 11.8 tons of tomatoes from Turkey into the country. On tomatoes, signs were revealed that indicate that the product was struck by a South American tomato moth, the press service of the department said.
Gosprodpotrebsluzhba detected and detained infected tomatoes in the Chernivtsi region during phytosanitary control at the customs clearance department.
In order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future, the State Food and Beverage Service of Ukraine sent documentation to Turkey on the product's non-compliance with phytosanitary requirements.Previously, the department has already banned the import of citrus fruits from Egypt and Turkey, which were infected by the Mediterranean fruit fly.
Recall that the best way to deal with tomato moths are entomophages, in particular, predatory bug neziodikoris. It has long been used by farmers in Spain, Turkey, Tunisia and Morocco.
Fighting tomato moths is difficult. Insecticides cannot be effective against it, since it lives inside the leaf, where ordinary poisons do not penetrate. Only a bug-predator can find and neutralize a moth and its offspring. At the same time, non-odicoris shows good results in the fight against other pests, since it is a universal predator.
