In 2019, the main reason for this was an increase in the cultivated area of crops.
This year, France was in third place among the leading soybean producers in the EU.
In its latest publication, the French Ministry of Agriculture announced a soybean crop in the country at a record level of 420 thousand. This exceeded the result of the previous year by 6%, and a five-year average by 22%.
The reason for the recent increase is the expansion of the cultivated area: in 2019, soybeans occupied 163 thousand ha, which is 9 thousand ha. more than the previous year. With revenues of 25.8 q / ha. the profit for the previous year was a little lost, but more than offset by an increase in area.
The largest increases in area were recorded in the Occitanie, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Center-Val de Loire regions in the south and west of France. 136 thousand tons of soybeans were harvested in Occitania.
However, the largest yield growth was recorded in the east of France in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Across the EU in 2019, about 2.9 million tons of soybeans were harvested, which is also a record level.
France with a total volume of 420 thousand tons is one of the leading soybean producers in the EU after Italy and Romania.
